Coronation Street actor Junade Khan has celebrated his daughter’s red carpet debut as she stars in an upcoming movie featuring Jacob Elordi and Margaret Qualley.
The daughter of Khan, who plays Idris Nazir on Corrie, and singer and presenter Gem, Alara-Star Khan is part of the cast of post-apocalyptic sci-fi film The Dog Stars, which has just had its London premiere.
An adaptation of the 2012 novel of the same name by Peter Heller, the film from director Ridley Scott and screenwriter Mark L Smith is set after a flu pandemic has wiped most of humanity. A former civilian pilot Hig (Elordi) and his dog, tough ex-Marine Bangley (Josh Brolin), and others navigate a ravaged world, still clinging onto hope that there might be a better life awaiting them.
Alara-Star Khan plays Matilda in the movie, which also stars Guy Pearce, Allison Janney, and Benedict Wong. As the young actor walked the grey carpet on the big night, her parents escorted her, later relaying her star moment on Instagram.
“Still pinching ourselves that our Alara-Star got to walk the red (well grey) carpet at the world premiere of The Dog Stars!” they wrote in the caption of Alara-Star’s parent-run account.
“Such a special moment for her, and for us to experience as proud parents alongside her. We are so incredibly proud of her and so grateful to everyone who has supported her, believed in her and worked so hard behind the scenes to help her get her to experience a moment like this,” the post also reads.
A foll0w-up post includes snaps of Alara-Star posing with her parents and Wong, as well as a clip of the child star chatting to Elordi.
“What a great evening at the Dog Stars Film premiere, @wongrel ,Jacob and Ridley Scott were amazing to our daughter @alara_star who had the best time in Italy filming, so proud of her and the movie was great too x,” Junade wrote in the caption.
Scott’s latest film comes two years after the release of Gladiator II and is set to hit cinemas later this month.
Coronation Street star speaks out after sparking on-set feud rumours
Coronation Street star Jane Hazlegrove has spoken out after sparking rumours of an on-set feud. It was thought by some that the actor, who plays Bernie Winter-Alahan on the ITV soap, was taking aim at a co-star following a social media post.
On Monday (17 August), Hazlegrove shared a photo on Instagram, with the text reading: “Booking the role isn’t the end of the job interview. How you behave after you’re hired matters too.”
“Haven’t been visible for a long long time! But this post makes total sense! WHO DO YOU THINK YOU ARE?
As my Dad used to say you are only as good as your last performance! Be nice! And if you can’t be nice… step away … cos people see,” she added.
While some thought the star was referring to another actor from Corrie, which could indicate some trouble behind the scenes of the soap, Hazlegrove later cleared up the rumours in the comment section.
“Just for clarification this post is NOT about anyone I am currently working with at Coronation Street. It’s a gentle reminder to be kind and professional at all times!” she confirmed.
Meanwhile, her co-star Jack P Shepherd, who plays David Platt, took the opportunity to make a joke, asking: “This is me isn’t it?” Hazlegrove replied with a number of laughing faces, adding: “soz pal you don’t win this one!!! No it’s bloody not!!!”
The actor has recently been missing from the cobbles, alongside her on-screen husband Jimmi Harkishin (who plays Dev Alahan). However, Bernie returns home next week, and is shocked to see her estranged auntie Celeste.
It’s clear that there’s some tension between the pair, as Bernie gives her the cold shoulder even after Todd Grimshaw reveals that Celeste is dying. Will they manage to bury the hatchet before it’s too late?
